Expedite the movement of patients to the appropriate care delivery area through the use of clinical assessment and advanced customer service skills. Facilitate appropriate and timely access to care for emergent patients. Communicate the condition of patients to the appropriate clinician in order to ensure a safe and timely response. Assist patients with limited mobility from/to the lobby.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Apply clinical assessment and sorting of patients to expedite the movement of patients to the appropriate care delivery area.
Facilitate the timely and appropriate access to care for emergent patients.
Within the scope of paramedic / EMT practice, initiate approved protocols and standing order per unit standards to include chest pain, stroke, pneumonia, intravenous, and other protocols.
Monitor patients in the lobby/waiting area for condition changes; respond appropriately with required measures when necessary until clinician arrival.
Communicate the condition of patients and changes in condition to the appropriate clinician to ensure a safe and timely response.
Provide emergency medical attention to include splinting, minor wound care, dressing, body positioning, cardiovascular and neurological stabilization, oxygen administration, CPR and ACLS protocols, etc.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of care provided to patients; ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare clinicians for delivery of quality care.
Provide excellent customer service to patients and guest; ensure patients receive regular communication regarding status, delays, hospital policies, expectations, etc.; serve as a conduit for patients and guest; provide information and reassurance.
Assist patients with limited mobility to and from the lobby; utilize the appropriate form of transportation as dictated by the patient’s condition.
Maintain a current knowledge base of trends and practices in emergent care; maintain valid and current certification/licensure(s) as required; pursue professional and personal growth.
Perform all responsibilities required through Nursing Services as defined in the scope of service/practice to ensure that the unique nature of the patient is appropriately addressed.
Attend all required safety training programs.
May coordinate the work of volunteers and security personnel assigned to the department.
Other duties as assigned or required.
Completion of an accredited Paramedic program through a technical or trade school.
Minimum Work Experience:
Two (2) years of experience as a Paramedic.
License(s) / Certification(s):
Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association.
Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Valid Paramedic in the State of Georgia.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Knowledge of emergent care techniques, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of and proficiency using the equipment located in the department (i.e., cardiac monitors, defibrillators, intubation equipment, dopplers, sterile equipment, IV pumps, etc.).
Knowledge of the hospitals Exposure Control Plan and Blood borne and Airborne Pathogen Plans.
Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate to patients and physicians both verbally and in writing.
Strong customer service skills and the ability to provide attentive and genuine customer service to patients and guests.
Analytical skills and the ability to make accurate assessments of conditions and situations.
Ability to care for patients with continuous cardiac monitoring to include rhythm identification, interpretation, and the ability to follow through with the appropriate intervention.
Ability to successfully complete all unit specific competency assessments.
Ability to accurately perform all approved point of care test.
Ability to deliver patient care based on the appropriate age, needs, capabilities, limitations, and emotional status of the patient.
Ability to complete the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) during orientation.
Ability to demonstrate the required safety techniques and standards required in performing the job identified.
Ability to demonstrate the respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, their families, guest, and fellow associates to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Ability to adhere to the St. Francis Hospital Customer Service Standards.
